Harper Mulroney...

Boss Harp is caught in a box. For 7 months he chose to ignore Mulroney storm clouds contained in letters sent to him by Schreiber. All the while, the Mulroney forces used every trick in the book to avoid the lawsuit trial that Schreiber had launched to reclaim his supposedly ill-spent $300,000 in cash which he provided Mulroney starting in 1993. Meanwhile, the government over which Boss Harp has the oft-proclaimed "supreme" command worked away at their attempt to extradite Schreiber. Similarly, the Harper government and Harper personally, also used every opportunity to boost the profile and legacy of the former PM...going so far as labelling him the "greenest PM ever"....with Harp saying he was a true mentor.
Sure sounds like the makings of a cover up...or, equally damning, an attempt to NOT get at the truth.
And now the question that has Harp boxed in: To extradite or not? We know where the public stands. Will polls govern Harp's moves in this matter as they do in all other things?
Should be fun to watch and see whether Boss Harp and the braintrust (Finley, Flanagan and Brodie) believe that the turmoil that would be caused by extradition would be greater than the turmoil caused by keeping Schreiber around to testify.

Shreiber is a manipulative lier that no political party should be attempting to support in any way shape or form. The RCMP should investigate, get a warrant for his house, where he has already stated further documents exist and he should be deported. A full public inquiry is over kill but Mulrouny should be charged if it is deemed appropriate.

As far as the money paid to Mulroney, my understanding is that it was paid to him because the Canadian governemtn in some communication to another foreign government stated that he had committed an illegal act. Until that is proven to be the case, there is no reason why Mulroney should have to pay back the money, inquiry or no inquiry.

Even if he is found to have broken some laws, which certainly I think may becoming clear, even crossing the border with that much cash for example, he may still be entitled to the settlement.

You know why, because the Canadian government shouldn't go around labelling people criminals, particularly former Prime Ministers before they have been found guilty in a court of law. This is fundamental to our system of justice and civil society.

I am going to go out on a limb here and as a Liberal say Mulroney should keep the money regardless of what happens even further criminal charges.

Shreiber should be deported to face justice in Germany, where his lobbying for Airbus and dealing with politicians are actually a part of the charges against him there. Kick his ass out of this country.

All we need to do is find out if a former PM took money while sill in office and that can be done without Schreiber. They weren't alone at Harrington Lake. OThers can be called to testify. mulroney's bank accounts can be examined. etc. etc.

It is not good for the governance of this country and the tone of Parliament and the respect politicians should have from the Canadian people to be making this into a circus.

And honestly if I were Harper, I would ignore all correspondance from Mr. Schreiber as well. He's not someone any Prime Minister should deal with. perhaps the lettters should have been forwarded to the RCMP, but made public or responded to. NO!

Yep, I agree, get rid of Shreiber, it's only money,
what the hell's 18 million dollars compared to the
traction that Gomery had going for the Tories.
