Johnboy Baird was in Vancouver yesterday trying desperately to salvage Harper's environmental agenda.
He managed to claim that their plan would include a $100 - 200 "carbon tax". Well, not a "tax"...just a penalty. Of course, there were no details...that will come next week no doubt at yet another photo-op.
That's an interesting statement actually...given that just a short while ago the same
pseudo-Environment Min was before a Senate committee falsely claiming that a the Opposition-amended Clean Air Act "...
would result in a carbon tax on industry of about $195 per tonne of carbon."
In true Mike Harris fashion, Baird thinks that if you lie BIG enough, OFTEN enough, then it will become true. First, the amended Act doesn't call for any kind of "tax". It offers companies an opportunity to "set aside" funds of their own that they can later draw down to implement environmental action plans to reduce carbon emissions.
But, how about the desperation revealed in the fact that Baird now says he WILL have a "penalty" of up to $200 per tonne. Whatever happened to his Chicken Little scenario of only a few days ago? Really nothing. HE JUST DOESN'T GET IT! He doesn't even understand how he has contradicted himself. Where is Rona Ambrose when needed?
He does remember how the Harris Tories you to assemble to pat themselves on the back after each ridiculous page of the Nonsense Revolution was turned. And, sure enough, there they were back at Bistro 990 after his bigmouth launch last week.
Mike Harris would be proud.

amazing!
It seems to be true that the Cons in general have policy operating as though on auto pilot without noticing that somehow the machine slipped into manual and they are flying the plane right into the ground. But it will be necessary to have a real policy set to advocate against them since they will now lie every day about every thing. This will not endear them to voters, but it surely will confuse everyone. You can't expect a Liberal victory if people believe all the pols are phonies and liars.
Clear and understandable policy must be found : out of Afganistan now, regardless; hard caps on big emitters plus a carbon tax now. And so on.
